If you're talking about a lossy file type, such as MP3, you can also shrink
the size by using a different bitrate. Use 128 KBPS instead of 256 KBPS and
the resulting file will be much smaller.
You're right, with a lossless file type like WAB, you'd have to convert to a
lossy file type.

the only way to make a music file smaller is to convert it to a smaller file
type. Last week I had to email two short recordings and a couple of doc
files. I converted the wav files to mp3, which made them much, much smaller
(from 19 mb to 3 mb). Then I made a new folder, put the mp3 and doc files in
it, and compressed the whole thing. The compressed zip folder was a little
over 3 mb, so clearly only the doc files were made smaller.
