Hello Ray.

I suspect that your PST file, the file where your outlook data resides has
become corrupt or has become larger than supported by Outlook.

There are a couple of things you should do.  

First you should check the size of your outlook data file.  You can do this
by going to the folder where this file resides.  You can easily accomplish
this by going to file/data file management in Outlook.  In the resulting
dialog, choose the option to open the folder for your data file.  ZBased on
the operating system, this can be a few different places.

In the folder look through the .pst file(s) that you have available.  On
each pst file, press alt+enter to view the file properties.  Use your mouse
cursoring keys to read the file size info.  If your PST files are more than
4 GB you're in serious trouble.  (outlook 2003 limit is 2 GB).  I recommend
going through some of your items and deleting things that you don't think
you'll need. If you're using exchange, you can choose to download what you
need.  You can also archive, a step I highly recommend to anyone.  Either
setup a schedule or do this manually.  Archiving will move old messages and
items to another file called archive.pst or archive.pst, thus freeing up
much-needed space in your normal Outlook file.

For the following steps, keep that outlook folder open since you'll need to
know the path for the folder.

Close outlook and be sure that the process has stopped. JAWS sometimes has a
problem closing Outlook 2007 properly.  You can do this by going to the task
manager/processes and hsutting down the outlook.exe process.

In your program files/Microsoft Office/Office folder you will find a file
called scanpst.exe.  It is a very useful file and should become your friend
if you are courageous enough to use outlook.  Open this file.

You will be asked which file  you wish to scan.  Browse to the location of
your outlook folder.  (told you you'd need that location again.)  Pick the
outlook file that you want to scan In the resulting dialog and choose ok.

Presss the start button to have the scan complete.  There are 8 phases that
the scan will go through.  The larger the file, the longer it will take for
you to finish scanning this file.  Be patient because this will take some
time.


When it finds errors, ScanPST asks you whether you want to make a backup of
the original file. Choose yes. It is always a good idea to make a backup.
If you're asked to override an existing backup, I recommend yes.  Once this
backup is made, ScanPST will try to fix the problems it found in your file.
This again will take some time so be patient.  If you notice that ScanPST
has stopped responding, continue to let it do its work.  It'll come back in
a while.  

When the fixing is done. Follow the previous steps to scan and fix all the
PST files in your outlook folder.

Reopen Outlook when done.

Oh, wait. But there's more.

Once outlook is loaded, return to the data file management dialog.  In the
list of files, choose your primary data file.  Tab over to the settings
option and choose this button.  When in the properties dialog, find the
"conpact now" button and choose it.  Depending on the size of your file,
this will be an incredibly long process.  You can exit the properties dialog
once compacting is complete.  

Do this for all your outlook files.  You should see performance improvement.

Hi All:

Over the past two weeks, I've noticed that my Outlook 2007 has become
painfully slow.  In particular, when creating tasks and when replying
to
HTML e-mails.

When I'm creating tasks, and I tab to go from, say, subject to start
date, I can wait up to 10 seconds for JAWS to tell me I'm on the start
date field.  When I'm replying to HTML e-mail messages, I often have
to
wait 5 to 10 seconds for the enter keystroke to be acknowledged.  If I
want to leave a blank line between paragraphs, if I go too fast, the
blank line doesn't get put in and I get a line break at some random
place.

Also, just now, I had to wait 10 to 15 seconds for a reminder to
display.

This is painful to say the least.  I'm running Windows XP
Professional,
with JAWS 10, Version 10.0.1154.  We're on a Microsoft Exchange
server.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
