apple is not blaiming anything on microsoft over office. it is a fact
that the publisher of the software *microsoft* is responsibility for
its accessibility on the mac which is somewhat different from windows
in that everyone envolved has a hand in it. Were microsoft to code
their office for the mac product with accessibility in mind, it'd be
accessible.

Here here! I agree with Bill 100%.
Just remember, for those switching to Mac, MS Office is still not
accessible. And you have got to love this! Mac blames that on
Microsoft, because MicroSoft won't conform to Apple's software
conventions.
If MicroSoft decided to build in a fully functional screen reader, the
blindness community would be up in arms crying fowl. It would be
something like the auto industry on a smaller scale. People would be
shouting things like: "MicroSoft is taking jobs away from the blind!"
"MicroSoft won't keep upgrading their screen reader to keep up with
all the applications that will come available or be upgraded."
"MicroSoft doesn't care about the little businessman."

This is indeed a step forward, but I feel it necessary to
point out that first off, Windows based PC's have only been
around about 15 years, not 25. Windows 95 was the first
windows based computer. Before that, what was called
Windows was really just a DOS shell, and not an operating
system. I, for one, thoroughly enjoyed working in the DOS
environment, and have mostly enjoyed working within Windows
also. My biggest gripe is the gouging behavior of Freedom
Scientific and Window Eyes forcing upgrade after upgrade,
and actively resisting any efforts by Microsoft to build
true access into Windows. So, though I applaud Apple, let's
put the blame for Windows frustration where it belongs, on
Freedom Scientific and their ilk.

Just my opinion.
Bill

I think there may be quite an Apple Mac ground swell as
blind folks buy their next computers.
After 25 years of utter frustration with Windows-based Pc's,
I too have just purchased a new MacBook Pro which will
arrive this week.
The Mac VoiceOver users list has had a substantial increase
in membership and several others who like myself have
recently joined that list are contemplating immediate
purchases of the Mac.

Of course there will be a learning curve, but I'm ready for
a new set of problems! I must say, I'm very impressed with
the Mac and what I hear of the new iPhone.
