Hi,

The answer is YES. You can keep the monitor turned off and turn it on only 
when you want someone to see what you hear. Alternatively, you can unplug 
the monitor connection at your computer. However, if you wish it to be 
viewed by someone, it's a bit of a bother to reconnect the cable and perhaps 
need to reboot your computer. I'd just turn off the power switch on the 
monitor.
