Hi all. Here are a couple of bits I've gleaned from the Top Tech Tidbits in
late May and early June of this year.

May 29, 2008:
7) Jamal Mazrui has advanced his free PDF2TXT program to Version 3. This
version allows you to turn password-protected PDF documents into text if you
know the password, and to use the best available free OCR to convert those
pesky PDF's that contain merely a picture of the text, into readable text.

June 12, 2008:
16) Speaking of pdf documents, Fred's Head Companion alerts us to a
web-based service for converting them to text, even retaining form elements
if the pdf is a form.
http://pdftextonline.com/

17) And here's a $12.50 pdf document converter that will convert pdf's into
all sorts of formats and is said to be thoroughly accessible. A free demo of
this program, called ABC Amber Pdf, can be had here:

Bear in mind that Adobe Reader cannnot read scanned images. they have to be
recognized by an OCR program, such as Kurzweil 1000, Open Book, FineReader,
or OmniPage.

How does this program work? It is like the older E-mail progrsams? There
have been documents I've wanted to read that are . pdf but are scanned, and
when I open the reader it thinks nothing is there.
