Subject: [leadership] ADA Restoration Act of 2007 Final Passage

Colleagues:

I have just learned that H.R. 3195, The ADA Restoration Act of 2007
passed by a vote of 402 /17 in the House of Representatives around 6:10
Eastern this evening. This comes as a major surprise since ACB had been
lead to believe that the bill was not going to come up for a vote this
year.

While ACB did support this legislation, we had hoped for more blindness
specific language, particularly with respect to Title III and web
accessibility. We did manage to have included some language in Title I
that addresses low vision aids but, much work still lies ahead if we are
to make the ADA more supportive of blindness-related concerns. You will
hear more about this issue from Eric Bridges, our Director of Advocacy
and Governmental Affairs.
