Well, here's my $0.02. Anyone who's going on the internet needs a bit of
a thick skin. You're going to run into all kinds, so if you're going to
venture out there, keep that in mind. A lot of posting tips deal with
being polite and tactful, but I think they also need to stress using the
delete key and blowing off inflammatory responses. So many flame wars
could have been stopped with a tactful post or the judicious use of the
delete key.
I think your answer was a bit terse, but you had know way of knowing
that. For all you knew, you would have gotten an equally abusive
response if the original poster had felt talked down to. The response
you got was totally uncalled for. The person could have politely
explained that your response was too terse and they need more
information, but instead, they chose to insult you and call you names.
The fact that they refer to "Freedom Science Fiction" tells me they're
starting with a chip on their shoulder, and you'll always have to walk
on egg shells around them. I'd just use the delete key and move on, if I
were you.
Remember too that this is just one person and you shouldn't jump to the
conclusion that everyone on the list is like this. Don't let this
response keep you from coming to the assistance of someone else who'll
appreciate it. We're not paid support but rather volunteers trying to
help each other out. Help those who will appreciate it and ignore the rest.
