Hello All:

I am wanting to experiment with the Speech Recognition feature of
Windows Vista and JAWS to see how they work together. I am using a
computer with plug and play hard drives and I can run XP or Vista. I'm
using an HP Computer that has the usual speaker, microphone, line input
and other jacks in the back, but also has an earphone and microphone
jack on the front of the machine.

When I have XP Home loaded, and I plug my microphone headphone
combination unit into the front jacks on the computer, the speakers are
disabled and the mic and headphone start working through the front
jacks. However, this does not happen in Vista. I went to the sound
icon under the Vista control panel and tried finding an option to get
the computer to use the front jacks but cannot find such a thing. Does
anyone know what I can do to force Vista to disable the speaker and mic
jacks on the back of the machine when I plug in the earphone and mic to
the front jacks?

Thanks,
