Hi Doreen,

It might help to know the make and model of router.

George.

Subject: [VICUG-L] QUESTION ABOUT ROUTERS

Hi everybody:
I recently changed from a dial up connection to high speed
cable connection
for my internet use. I purchased a router at this time as I
was keen to
change my lap top internet connection to high speed as well.
Currently
there are problems connecting my lap top on to high speed,
but that's a
different story. Please understand that I got the router in
order to connect
my lap top as well and I'm wondering if I am unable to get
my lap top
ultimately connected to high speed, is there any advantage
in keeping the
router to run with my p.c high speed cable? Does the router
act as some
kind of firewall or protection for the p.c or without the
ability to route
to my lap top is this just a piece of equipment I don't
really need?
If you are confused by this message (and I don't blame you
if you are)
please feel free to ask further and relevant questions and
I'll be happy to
try and answer.
Hope to hear from somebody soon.
Many thanks.
DOREEN YALE.
