HiPhil,
I like the Kenwood because it is really accessible with that speech board 
and all the menus talk.

For portable work I'll eventually get a Yaesu FT817ND

I already have the JohnHansen Millenium qsyer to use with it plus a keypad 
with different features from BHI of England.

I can also try the commander software that Danny Dyer from this list kindly 
helped me get.

Even with a computer program it may not be as easy to run as the Kenwood 
TS480SAT but I'll take my chances.
