Hey Eric,

Sounds a bit like what I was using in Ukraine when we went to adopt  
Alena. My antenna was upside down! Which is to say, I dropped about 25  
or 30 feet of wire out the seventh-floor window and strung about 16  
foot of wire along the floor as a counterpoise. Believe it or not, My  
KX1 (with max of maybe 2 watts) actually made a couple contacts like  
that. What a trip that was--30 and 40 meters; 20 didn't get much use  
that trip. I plan on operating from there again when we go for  
adoption #2, this time I'm bringing my P1 portable vertical from  
Bluestar Antennas. (Maybe I'll bring some wire, too, just for  
variety's sake.)
