Yes, as I posted last week, the Hall I used in 1949 had a carriage return
lever that also advanced one line.
The slightly smaller machines we had at the same time had no lever. Also,
they had a piece of metal on the roller that could flip up to put in the
paper, then snap down to keep the paper on the roller.
In the late 50's I saw a couple stenographer's braille writers. They wrote
on paper tape.
