Mark,
    Press Menu key, find number 31.  Radio will beep on number 1 then you 
can count from there in either direction.  Press Menu again to access the 
settings.  Use Tuning control to change, its either ON or OFF.  You want OFF 
for nornal mic use.  Press Menu again to save the setting.

    I dont know if there is a beep to indicate what setting is active.  I 
sent my radio back this week to replace a broken tuning knob.  Sigh.
