Yeah, maybe a bit of a correction is in order.

Yes, the .bak files will be in your recycle bin if the compaction was 
successful.

But, I've seen occasions when for some reason, compacting stopped in 
midstream.  In those instances, the .bak files will be with your other Outlook 
Express files.  Once compaction is completed successfully, Windows performs 
the typical delete function on those files and they are then moved to the 
Recycle bin.
