I, too, was diagnosed in the days before the gluten-gliadin link was
known (back in 1943).  And I, too, had apparent periods of remission.
The research literature indicates that they were only apparent.  My
body indicates the same.  I urge people who have gone off the diet
because they experience no symptoms to get themselves diagnosed
definitively. Then they will know whether they need to be GF from a
more valid source than their external symptoms.
