Hmm,

When I explained the whole ctrl+r and ctrl+l thing to left and right align 
on the same line, I tried it, and it worked. I just tried it again, and it 
doesn't. Here's another option:

1. Make a table with two columns by hitting alt+a, then i, then t.

2. When prompted for the number of columns, arrow down to 2 (if you want to 
left and right align) or 3 (if you want to left, center, and right align), 
and press enter.

3. Type the left text in the leftmost box, the center text in the middle 
box, and the right text in the right most box.

4. When you finish typing, tab through the cells in the table. Each time you 
tab to a cell, the cell is highlighted.

A. To center items in the center column, hit ctrl+e while the cell is 
highlighted.

B. To right align items in the right column, hit ctrl+r while the cell is 
highlighted.

5. When you finish, move the pointer/focus to anywhere in the table, and 
hide the grid lines by pressing alt+a, then G. If you arrow down the options 
in the Tables menu, you find either "Show Gridlines" or "Hide Gridlines 
[checked]."

I just tried it, and all went well. Let's hope it works for the rest of you.
