Another way to turn PDF files into html is to use Accessible PDF by Claro 
Software. The product and download link is here:

http://www.ClaroSoftware.com/index.php?cPath=314

The program turns the pdf into html and allows you to convert that to txt.

the help files are clear, and the program is easy to use. It doesn't work 
with pdf's that are image files only, but it does a pretty good job with the 
ones that have underlying text. I actually like it better than Adobe for 
reading this type of file.
