Hey, thanks for the URL! Just to clarify though, the accessibility of
the iPod doesn't have anything to do with Window-Eyes. If you have an
iPod Nano and iTunes version 8 then you can have tiny audio files based
on your system's voice settings sent to the iPod giving you a talking
menus structure. Note that I haven't done this myself; I'm just going on
what I read on this web site you provided. Also, although Apple claims
this is unique, note that Rockbox has been doing this for years on the
MP3 players it supports.
Separately, I did see on the same web site that the latest Window-Eyes
beta does give you access to iTunes 8, so they are somewhat related stories.
As an editorial, I'll just say that although I laud Apple for this work
and other efforts they've made with regards to accessibility, IMHO, they
aren't the altruistic company their PR would lead you to believe. If
they were, it wouldn't have taken this long for iTunes and the iPod Nano
to be accessible. Furthermore, the iPhone would have been accessible
when it was launched. So although I think Apple should be praised for
this work, and this work should be encouraged, I'd caution the blind
community in heaping so much praise on Apple that they don't realize
that there's still more to do.
