Quin, after a similar problem I downloaded and ran a program called
"Klcodec417s". during the installation it found and fixed problems that were
found. Now the sound works OK. Worth a try.
Alan.
I built this computer about a year ago and, until now, it's
been working fine.
A couple of weeks ago I shut down my computer as usual. The next
morning Windows booted up as expected but with no sound. I've had no
sound since.
The Computer: Home build in Antec case with fans.
ECS NFORCE4M-A motherboard
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
2048 Megabytes Installed Memory
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT [Display adapter]
HSD HW191D [Monitor] (19.1"vis, s/n 643GH3CY15165, October 2006)
The Problem: No sound, as mentioned above.
I've exchanged speaker sets with no success; I've exchanged on-board
sound to sound card with no effect. I've examined the Hardware section
in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices (everything is grayed out
in this section so its not workable), No problems in Control Panel,
System. No problems here except for the grayed out section I've
mentioned above.
When trying to access sounds I get various error messages such as
"There are no active mixer devices available." "and No Sound Device",
and "The Audio device supported by this application not detected."
Any suggestions?
Quin
