Try going into Services (in XP, it's via Ctrl Panel/Admin Tools, prolly the 
same in Vista) and check that the appropriate Services are running. There 
are several WMI services. If not, double-click and start each one.

I've an idea that WMI Service is dependant on another Service running, so 
you may have to research into which prior Service is required.
