Hi Jim,
Those are some interesting thoughts but there are a couple of weaknesses
in her position:
1. We are all individuals. As such, we each have different protein and
energy needs. Those needs also vary from day-to-day. I don't think that
any fixed formula like that will produce the same results for everyone.
2. If fat only comprises 65% of the diet then 35% is made up of
carbohydrates and proteins. Much of that 35% will also be burned as
glucose, as excess proteins are converted to glucose, and carbs are
mostly reduced to glucose. While the body may be using mostly fats for
energy, it will use some glucose as well. It isn't an on or off thing.
It is a question of proportions. Typically, the more fats that are
consumed as energy, the deeper the level of ketosis, but that also
varies from one individual to the next. My wife and I can eat identical
meals for several days. She will reach moderate to deep ketosis (40 to
80 mg/dL) while I will only experience mild ketosis (about 15 mg/dL).
Each of us has fairly unique energy needs. There are smaller variations
in protein needs, but those also vary considerably. A friend who is an
avid body builder has much greater protein requirements than I do.
3. I have been not, to my memory, experienced the 6 week plateau she
talks about.
