Psychiatric diagnosis is completely unregulated.[9,36-38] No one
other than the APA controls what goes into the DSM, and no one has
held them accountable for their claims that it is scientific,
helpful, and not harmful. This allows for the opacity of enterprises
involving the use of diagnoses in ways that are both unscientific and
unethical and that often lead to harming the very people who have
turned to the mental health system for help.
