Tom,

How about this:

Connect the TS-480SAT's first pigtail to the TW1's "radio" connector using
one jumper.
Connect the TW1's "antenna" connector to the external tuner's "radio"
connector using one jumper.
Connect the external tuner's "antenna" connector to one of the selectable
connectors on a CoAx switch using one jumper.

Connect the TS-480SAT's second pigtail to another one of the selectable
connectors on a CoAx switch using one jumper.

Connect the antenna feed line to the "common" connector on the CoAx switch.

Then, whenever you want to change from using the external tuner to using the
internal tuner, you manually switch the CoAx switch and make the TS-480SAT
select the appropriate pigtail. You also need to make the TS-480SAT select
or deselect the internal tuner as appropriate.

Caution: Don't confuse which way the CoAx switch is set whenever
transmitting!

btw, I told you it would be messy. ;)

Yeah, I guess you're right, Bob.

You know what, though?

I just thought of something, which I'd like some more feedback on from other
TS480 users out there:

I wonder if I could use one of the antenna ports on the TS480 for the
auto-tuner, and the other for the outboard tuner?

That would mean the only thing I'd have to do is physically switch
connections between the two pigtails, depending on whether I'm using the
internal auto-tuner, or my outboard MFJ external tuner?

If this is incorrect, please don't laugh at me, guys. ... It's getting late,
and the mind is going fast here.
