Hi Richard;
Most of the Panasonic cordless phones have talking caller id.
But the second box you mentioned has a pretty loud volume so you could turn
it up and then, you can use any phones you want to use as long as you can
hear the box throughout your home.
I use the 9900 and, it works just fine.
