Run Msconfig/Startups and untick all non-essential startup programs. 
Especially anything which looks like it might be associated with DVD 
player. (eg Quicktime which is a pernicious startup akin to a virus---every 
time you use it, it tries to put itself into startups without your permission).

Msconfig won't allow you to untick any essential system files, so it's 
quite safe to use.
