Hello and thank you to all who responded. I got some EXCELLENT responses.
ALL helped me considerably. Hearing others experiences has helped me go
forward without fear. I would be a scared rabbit without this site:)

Here are the most helpful responses:

I stayed on Xifaxan for two years to treat SIBO and had no problems. On the
suggestion of my doctor, I decided to try going with out it back in
September - and I've been fine ever since. But earlier attempts to stop
weren't met with the same success. I don't what was different this time, but
so far, so good.

My dad also died of colon cancer (and may have had celiac, although we
don't know for sure). I also suspect that SIBO may have been a factor for
him.

I take Xifaxan for ulcerative colitis with pretty good results. I take 6
tablets a day for 14 days about every 3 months, or as needed. It helps but
not a cure.

I have pretty much been told I don't have Celiac, negative biopsy, only positive
on IgG antigliadin, and I'm not IgA deficient, but I seem to have a clear gluten
intolerance.

I was only vaguely positive on the breath test for SIBO, but Dr. Green
prescribed Xifaxan. I felt better on it, but it only lasted about 3 weeks after
I finished it. I did this 3 times, and tried probiotics with/after the
antibiotics with no change. Recently I've had a period where I felt good for a
while without Xifaxan. I was taking 3 different probiotics at high doses, and I
also started taking digestive enzymes. The probiotics are VSL#3 capsules, 2
capsules twice a day, DDS Probiotics brand Acidophilus from UAS Laboratories, 8
capsules twice a day (4 times the dose on the label), Saccharomyces Boulardii
from Jarrow, 2 capsules twice a day (4 times the label dose). This is all under
a doctor's orders. The Acidophilus was added after a stool test showed I had
next to none.

On this I was feeling okay, but I ran out of the acidophilus around Christmas
while I was away and couldn't get the same brand for over 2 weeks, so I bought
another brand. I was ok until New Years eve when I went out to eat at a
Himalayan restaurant, where they told me that there was no wheat in the things I
ate, but I'm not sure we were communicating. Then I felt like crap(painfully
bloated every night) until I got the same specific brand acidophilus I was doing
well on, about 2 weeks later. Since then I've been recovering and I seem to be
getting back to where I was before New Years eve.

I do wonder whether I need such high doses of so many expensive pills, but I do
seem to feel well on them and I'm not quite ready to screw with success. I
suppose the part that I thought you might find interesting is the number and
high doses of probiotics that I seem to need to feel well.

Another thing I've done which seems to make a difference to
me, which is walking briskly (fast enough to get sweaty dispite the cold and
wearing a sweatshirt instead of the down jacket I wear at other times) at least
3 mornings a week for 45 min.

I was suffering from c-diff, which I’d had before. And the treatment for
c-diff (Flagyl) did help while I was on it — even though I actually tested
negative for c-diff. But as soon as I was done with the Flagyl, the symptoms
returned. A second round of Flagyl a few weeks later produced the same
results, which is what led my GI doc to test for SIBO. I found relief as
soon as I began the Xifaxan — taking two tablets twice a day.
