Thank you everyone for your generous responses to my inquiry. Bottom line
consensus is “if it’s not broken don’t fix it.” I think what I’ll do is
discontinue taking any type of probiotics because “one size doesn’t fit all.”

I received an excellent link regarding “Probiotic Provoked D-lactic Acidosis
in Short Bowel Syndrome.”

Everyone has a wealth of personal experience and that really helped to calm
my desperate search for stopping the chronic bloating, foul gas and general
malaise. My dad had the exact same symptoms as I. It hit both of us in our
late 50’s. I definitely know it’s genetic but am still at a loss as the
gene and a diagnosis.

I hope no one calls the cops of me (actually my friend’s friend) but I
(being an old hippie) sampled some pot at a party and had no problem
whatsoever with what I ate at the pot luck (haaaaa, just made a funny). I
can’t help but wonder if I have short bowel or fast transit issues. Oh, and
I laughed a lot at the party, something I don’t do with a bloated gut.
Actually I avoid social gatherings because of the gut issues.

Thanks again for all of the WONDERFUL insight. I am stopping the
cookie-cutter, one-size-fits all probiotics and will keep you posted with my
status.

Happy holidays.
