Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about the risk of taking
flu shots.  I had thirty three responses and here is the summary:
 
Twenty one people said they recommend taking the shot. They have had
little or no reaction to it. One person said that Dr. Peter Greene
recommends both the flu shot and the pneumonia shot for people with
celiac disease. An RN wrote and said to make sure you get the shot that
is Thimerisol free (preservative free).
 
Twelve people recommended against taking the shot. Here are some of
their reasons for not taking it:

This is a very good article, and worth reading.
 
Dr. Joseph Mercola recommends against the flu shot. He says the shot can
weaken the immune system and make you more predisposed to the illness.
He recommends immune-enhancing techniques as avoiding sugar, getting
enough rest, eating garlic, minimizing stress and regular hand washing.
 
There are two potential risks, severe allergic reaction if you're
allergic to eggs, which are used to develop the shot, and Guillain-Barre
syndrome, which causes paralysis.
 
One person wrote to say that the serum they put the shot in may contain
a mercury preservative.
