The only potential problem that I can see is the possibility of that 
external drive changing its drive letter unexpectedly.  I routinely use 
external drives for retrieving and saving data files, and this 
occasionally happens when, as an example, that drive becomes temporarily 
disconnected and reconnected again.

I find this livable for data files, but I am not sure how this might 
impact things if I chose to run programs off that drive.
I will be curious to see what others might say on this so I hope that they 
choose to reply publicly to the list on this.
