I too like your choices.  Even if you run qrp for now you still have the
convenience of a radio that can be fully controlled without your computer. 
I
highly recomend the handiham mp3 manuals.  I listened and found them far 
more
helpful than the mere pdf of the regular manual.  I have antennas and coax 
in
the garage and a local club promising to show up.  I am holding off on the
ts480 until folks actually show up.  Even there is dsp I plan on probably 
two
filters along with the voice board.
