you can change channels with no problem, they have direct channel entry and 
all the standard cable box stuff. So far as I know they're the same boxes 
they were when I told comcast to take a hike. I'm not sure with comcast's 
DVR, I never tried that one. It was more money than I was willing to pay. 
Dish network's wasn't too bad, now I have TiVo which is alright to a point 
but I'm still learning it.
