Thanks for the note. Although I have no conclusions on my condition yet, I
hope to have some within a few months. Under doctor's care, I have slowly
increase my meds from .075 in the fall to .125 currently. (Please keep in
mind that at .075 my tests were "normal".) My endo felt that for my height
(5'11"), coupled with the fact that I was still experiencing extreme hypo
symptoms, I would probably be better on .100, so he increase my dose, and
sure enough I saw improvements. However, I was still sufferening. This went
on for four months and then we tried Cytomel (T3), which gave me great
improvements but a very rocky road of ups and downs. Finally I theorized
that my body should be converting enough T4 to T3, so I asked if they would
allow me to try .125. My doctor agreed and within one week I felt quite
good...... then I crashed and had an extreme combination of hypo symptoms
with rapid heart rate (hyper symptoms). Eventually I asked if I could split
my dose - 1/2 in am, 1/2 in pm. My doctor agreed. Bad idea!!!! I'm not
kidding you, within 2 days I was more hypo than I've been in 6 months. I
even got the low scratchy voice back. I sounded like "Froggy". Knowing that
I couldn't go back to my regular dose without heart palpitations, I slowly
weaned myself back onto .100 in am and .025 in pm. I felt pretty darn good
for nearly three days in a row. Now, my eyes almost look normal again and
aren't as red and glossy (one of the most telling signs on me). I am almost
sweating. I'm only cold periodically. My joints and muscles aren't as bad
(only intermittent). I'm not constantly tired (intermittent). As I'm
getting better, I'm only just beginning to realize how doggone sick I was,
even with "normal" tests! By the way, I'm not quite as foggy mentally
(intermittent.) Maybe there's hope for all of us? Unfortunately it's too
soon to tell, but I have two possible conclusions at the present time:

1. I am still undermedicated at night. There are definite hours of the day
that I feel better than others. I know that this flies in the face of all
medical research about how synthetic thyroid hormone accumulates in your
system, but maybe my body is just unique! It's really not out of the
question based upon my experiences. Besides, my endo believes I have NO
thyroid left. For those of you out there that have had a thyroidectomy, what
is your dose??? I'm guessing it's somewhere above .125.

2. I have developed some kind of resistence to thyroid hormone. Each time I
increase the meds, I feel better but then my body "adjusts" to the increase,
and I go back to hypo. I sure hope this is not the case, but it has to be
given consideration.

I'm sure I've done more "experimenting" then most. I guess I'm lucky to have
such great doctors. Believe me, when I am back to 100%, I will post like
crazy with how I got there. I hope you all will too!

Any thoughts would be appreciated from anyone on the above.

Best to all,

Cherise
