Kerry, your thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped organ that hides behind the
bone in your throat which most people refer to as your adams apple. It is
difficult to accurately palpate it yourself, because you really need to
stand behind the person and put your fingers on the edge of the adams apple
and ask the patient to swallow.
