Hi all...
For everyone who's wondered about stomach problems with thyroid disease,
and for those who have suspected or been diagnosed with intestinal
yeast/candida overgrowth/candidiasis along with our thyroid problems,
there's an article on Reuters health service (I think you need to
register for free to access the article) that is of interest. Basic
gist: Not enough TSH = more susceptible intestinal immune system.
Candidiasis proponents have long claimed that thyroid disease is a
result of candida/yeast overgrowth, and some alternative medical
professionals have suspected that hypothyroidism reduces the
gastrointestinal defenses to the extent that candida can take hold in
people more aggressively. Either way, it's interesting.
Title: "Intestinal Immune System Regulated By Thyroid-Stimulating
Hormone"
http://www.reutershealth.com/news/docs/199703/19970328scb.html
Researchers at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma report in today's
Science that for the intestine, thyroid-stimulating hormone appears to
"...be a key immunoregulatory mediator."...
"...the intestinal epithelium [outer layer] can justifiably be regarded
as a component of the mucosal immune system."
