Some of you may remember that I'm being treated for hypothyroidism
following radiation treatment that zapped my thyroid. My question today is
what are people's opinions on the kind of doctor who should treat a thyroid
condition? I've noticed that some on this list are being treated by
primary care physicians while others are being treated by specialists of
varying kinds. I'm being treated by my oncologist. He's a leading expert
in treatment of cancer, but I'm thinking that maybe an endrocrinologist
should take on this new thyroid issue. Am I off base? Does anyone care to
comment? My thinking is that given the tricky nature of monitoring thyroid
indicators and prescribing the right level of medication, I'm inclined
toward getting the most knowledgeable kind of practitioner to handle the
thyroid problem.
