I know that my doctor eventually made a referral, but the rheumatoid
guy didn't understand why I was there. I had no joint pain and
according to him, the ANA was consistent with Hashi's but not "high
enough" to be anything else. Hopefully in your case the specialist may
help you rule stuff out as he did me....although I could have told both
of them that I didn't have symptoms of Lupus or rheumatoid arthritis
(since they are both present in family members). But I figured better
safe than sorry.
