Wow - had quite good response. Thanks to everyone. Obviously there is a lot of concern about the effectiveness, content (preservatives, aluminum, formaldehyde, mercury, etc), and side effects.
Several list members indicated the immune system of a celiac is not compromised and the flu vaccine does not compromise it. However, the vaccine does rev up the immune system and could cause the Gullian-Barre Syndrome or other problems according to CDC's website at http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/fluvaccine/htm.
Another list member cited the results from the vaccine question received last Oct.
21 recommended and 12 recommended no and gave this website of http://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller27.hml for further information.
Several also recommended getting the thimerosal or preservative free shots if available.
Here are my results:
19 have already received or will get the regular flu shot (had little or no reaction)
6 wanted to be sure I did a summary
1 did the regular flue mist with no reaction
7 recommended getting the regular and swine flu shots
2 had their doctors advise against getting the shots
3 recommended getting regular flu shot but hesitate about the swine flu shot
2 said their doctor had recommended getting the flu shots
6 recommended no because of the side effects - several had pretty bad reactions and knew people that got the Gullian-Barre Syndrome.
