I believe you're absolutely right, Ken, but demographic change and
technology has diminished the need for the "elitism" necessitated by most of
the country being uneducated and uninformed (hmmm...on second thought, maybe
things haven't changed).  At any rate, it was much easier to have 13
independent elections and then bring those results to one physical location
and let the "college" determine the winner.

Now, each time there's a census, the balance of voting power changes.  That
means that my vote is of greater or lesser importance depending on where I
live.  It just ain't right.

A friend sent me this video link from BBC's Channel Four.  "John Bird" and
"John Fortune" are discussing the American credit crunch from a British
perspective.  It's an absolute hoot!  Deri, can you shed some light on Bird
and Fortune?
