I remember when aspertame first came out, it was touted as being made from
green beans.  I thought, "great!"  But I had problems with legumes (beans,
peanuts, soy, etc.)  Not just methane production, but adult acne and cysts
(anywhere from soles to scalp) popped up within a couple hours and jerky legs
that woke me up that night.  Same things happened with aspertame -- just one
diet soda or aspertame snack.  I don't remember any other thyroid-connected
reactions, but I remember quick hunger. (I'm hyperinsulin since the
hypothyroid problem started anyway.)  My sister lived on aspertame for years,
and she finally had to have surgery to remove all her interior cysts -- what
a mess!.  Is there a connection?  When I gave up aspertame and legumes, my
skin cleared up and cysts did not pop up.  Other people have told me of
different reactions to aspertame.  Some seem to have no reaction.
