Esther,
I like my endo. I can recommend him as an endo but I can't guarantee how
fabulously he treats thyroid conditions because I am in an HMO (Oxford)
and my Primary Care Physician insisted on treating me, and without a
referral, I can't pay him. Since that's working out so far, I haven't
insisted on getting a referral to the endo.
I originally went to my endo for an adrenal condition and he instantly
diagnosed me with Hashimoto's, noticing a small goiter no one else ever
noticed and giving me blood tests. He didn't treat me right away because
I had no symptoms, so he recommended a re-test in a year and started
treating my adrenal condition, which was more serious at the time. I had
the re-test at my PCP's office, told my endo the results over the phone
and he told me to get treated for it (2 tests within a year showing TSH
over 5). If I ever have problems with my PCP, I'm going straight to him.
I like him alot: he's informative and observant.
His name is Donald Bergman, 1199 Park Avenue, Suite 1F (that's around
89th or 90th St) (212)876-7333.
He *always* gives his patients copies of their blood tests and he has
phone consultation hours to talk about test results (I believe it's
between 12:30 and 1:30). Even though I hadn't seen him for over a year,
he talked to me over the phone about my re-test results--and he hadn't
even given me the test!
Good luck.
Cathy
