Hello Everyone!
I have just joined the list serve and have a few questions...But first
it might be a good idea to tell you a little bit about myself.
When I was 16 years old, I developed a weight problem. I also developed
an eating problem -binge eating- where I craved carbohydrate and fatty
food. Ice cream filled this bill nicely. I thought the weight problem
was related to the eating problem, now I don't know. Maybe both
problems were related to a thyroid problem. I also developed an extreme
intolerance to cold. My toes would get so cold they actually burned.
(Reynauds???) In addition, my hair started to thin at about the age of
17.
I have been repeatedly tested for hypothyroidism...All the tests came
back normal.
I recently went to a doctor for the unexplained skin rashes (especially
on my scalp) that have plagued me since I was 22. He is an MD, but
believes in vitamins. He is a little controversial in the medical
world, but so far traditional allopathic medicine has not helped me very
much.
He put me on Armour medication along with a bunch of vitamins. He said
that thyroid tests can show normal ranges, but still be wrong. He is
treating the symptoms and therefore prescribed the medication.
Now to my questions:
1. Is the synthetic medication better or worse than the Armour or is
just a personal tolerance thing?
2. I have been on the medicine for about 3 weeks. This morning I
forgot it and started freezing to death and shaking. I left work and
within 5 minutes of taking the Armour I felt much better. Is this a
normal response from someone who forgets to take the med?
3. What can I expect from taking this med? I already feel more normal
temperature wise. I also don't wake up in the morning drenching wet
with night sweats. My main interest however, is my hair. Does your
hair grow back?
4. I have been reading a lot on diet and nutrition in general. The
latest fad seems to be that soybean which have natural phyto-estrogens
plays a big role in increasing the utilization of thyroid in subclinical
thyroid patients. (like me) Is anyone trying to incorporate a more
natural approach to their thyroid problem? If so, have you decreased
the dosage of your med any?
5. I turned 40 this year. Is it possible to spend 23 years of your
life being misdiagnosed? This is more rhetorically sarcastic. Sorry
all you MD's.
Thank you for any input>
Gayleen
