two problems with the Motorola system it is not open source Icomm published its code and told developers 
to have at it and some have with the dongle and a couple boards which will let you retrofit analog radios 
to operate DSTAR being the result.  The other is that P25 systems and subscriber units are quite a bit 
more expensive than DSTAR equipment (this from Motorola guys I know in the area)  I'm not sure that it's 
not going to last There are quiet rumblings that one or more of the other manufacturers will announce roll 
out of DSTAR product lines at Dayton and that will bring the equipment prices down considerably when that 
happens.  At this point with the technology still developing it may be a bit early to predict an early 
death for DSTAR.

DStar probably won't last anyway, there's nothing around here I know of, but
with Icom the only company making equipment for it right now and there being
no standard, and motorola's system more common, I really think in a few
years DStar will be completely forgotten.
