Not much after today, I'm afraid. We will all be bought and paid for,
from the prez right down to the local pols, by multinational
corporations. I have already seen it here in KY where I'm represented by
Hal Rogers and Mitch McConnell (big pharma and coal pay their bills,
thus the complete non-enforcement of any clean air or water regulations,
as documented recently by the Times), and in OH where my representative
is John Boehner. (Famous for receiving his tobacco check on the floor of
the House just minutes before voting on the Tobacco bill a few years ago.)
I don't know how that type of influence can be overcome, especially when
so many people spend so much time working, eating, ferrying kids around,
and watching TV. They have a LOT to lose if they speak up.
