put the meter between the tuner and the radio. Bypass the radio tuner to use 
the external one, and if you use the internal one in the radio, you have to 
either put the external tuner in the bypass position if it's like mine and 
has one, or disconnect it. Most tuners have a way to bypass it though, I 
know my MFJ 941C does.
