Oops,  sent this to David by mistake, so I'll try again.

Tom,

It's not always possible to  get to the far end of  a spool or reel of wire
(the end you are not working from).  But if you  are able to mark that other
end and you lose track  of the end you are working on, you can use a
continuity tester to get  back on track.
