but, does the beagle's natural affinity to eatting garbage over rule the poodles brains? we has beagle when i was growing up, and one of em used to get out on garbage day. the dog catcher used to wish he had a nickle for every time the dog escaped, and eluded him!
Thanks,

Mag,
I know you want a smaller, lower maintenance dog so I won't strongly
recommend what I've got. He's a chow/lab cross, and the best dog I've ever
seen, bar none (spoken like a true proud puppy papa). He sheds like crazy
though, and weighs 75 pounds.
You might want to consider a poodle/beagle cross. When I was in high
school, the second best dog I've ever known was a beagle/husky cross with a
wonderful temperament. She shed quite a bit, so that's why I'm recommending
a poodle cross. The beagle made her smaller and thinner, so a cross with a
poodle might fill your needs well.

An unreasonable man (but my wife says that's redundant!)
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one
persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress
depends on the unreasonable man.
