][< man,
I was going through storage rooms at the New Haven Historical Society
yesterday, trying to figure out how we can get a grip on how much it will
cost to get the collections on line (a grant) and find some threads for
scripting some new exhibits and what do you know? We have a wonderful
collection of shovels, all kinds of shovels, including shovels used for
ground breaking ceremonies. My favorite is one with a painting of Ready
Killowat on the blade, or shall we say Ready (light the fire) ][<illowatt.
The sparky little fellow reminds me of you (sorry Mr Potato Head) Why did
thanatos remind me of shovels?
Signed,

Ralph,
I don't screw up because of my parents. All of them.
Tom Peters said if you are not getting anyone ticked off then you must
not be trying hard enuf.
I don't particularly care how we want to play this thread but I am
really curious the connection between 'guilt' reinforced culture and the
propensity for historic preservation.
I asked our fav Marine over the last holiday visit how anyone can live a
life of meaning in peace if the culture and myth of war is that when
engaged in war, as in an infantry firefight, is the time when, as it has
been reported, we are most alive? If we are told that the most vivid
experience of life is the most near to our enabling our death then how
can ppl ever live in peace if they also want to live the most? I picked
up a book by Maureen Dowd and she suggests that we sublimate the real
time of war experience in sex, in bed -- if we are not getting shot at
we can at least... I am not trying to be off the wall here... but I am
curious the architectural extension of heritage conservation, and our
fixation on preservation of the heritage built environment, to the
paradox of thanatos. I mean... even figure the connection of natural
cement to coastal fortifications.
But I am going to figure this is one of those tangents that...
