Virgie, the class is $75 per month. It used to be $50 but it's recently gone
up $25. The class is quite long because there's a lot of material. There are
20 units of study and some of the units are long, could take about four
weeks to complete one unit. The class is twice weekly, three hours a
session. Then there are reviews of the units which are recorded on MP3 and
placed in the students' FTP folders. I can't exactly say how long it
actually takes to complete the course. It depends on if there are a lot of
interruptions, etc. I've been taking this course since about April of 2006.
I had to do some of it independent study as I wasn't really able to get into
a class because I was working and the classes were during the day. I did
start out with me and another gal meeting with Kathy on Saturday mornings,
but then this gal decided that she didn't want to do the class any more, so
it was just me. So I did independent for a while and then Kathy suggested I
join a class since I was no longer working. Now our class is joining another
class that is about three units ahead. So we'll have to catch up with the
other units, so that is a little bit of the independent study. We're in
about the eighth unit now, so that means there is still quite a bit to go
before we finish the course, and even then, we may still have assignments to
work on and finish. Then there's the AHDI test. Used to be AAMT, something
like Association of American Medical Transcriptionists. Now it's Association
of Health Documentation Integrity. So, there you have it.
