My mother and I were talking about this very same thing one day. I grew up
on 5 acres and we raised our own chickens, bought raw milk from the
neighbors, had a pig and a steer that grazed and grew our own vegetables.
My mom bought very few groceries, although we did eat cereal. We did not
eat most other junk foods. We didn't realize how lucky we were back then.
