mags,

That was my point in my novel regarding pan-flu--What is the link? Disability! Our governments, particularly those with a more activist role in personal health care, are pre-determining who lives and who dies in this scenario. The physician on the scene be damned!

Our government has suffered scope creep such that what started out (in the US at least) was primarily defense of borders and enforcement of popular laws has become a behemoth with many agencies creating their own "regulations" founded not on constitutional law, but a set of self-generating self-perpetuating rules in the "United States Code."

Look at foods, for instance. Who is the general oversight agency for food safety in the US? FDA? USDA? CDC? DHS? Dept. of Commerce? The answer is that each of these has oversight; many areas overlapping and not a few regulations of one agency at odds with those of another. Food safety is huge, ungainly mess that had its start in good intentions but has grown into bloated bureaucracies that cannot overcome the intertia of their own mass

Now I realize that many folks here are dependent upon government services that I am not. No doubt that's why you're voting your heart (oddly, that message I sent before on the topic got turned into a sidebar about gay marriage and abortion) because you feel Senator Obama will best serve those needs. I just have no idea how he intends to pay for his programs while keeping taxes low (for folks like me who earn way under his "middle class" line). He's trying too hard to be all things to all people and because he's a great orator we WANT to believe him, we DO believe him. Will we love him still when he can't make good on his promises?

This marks my last few weeks to voice my public opinion on whichever man is going to be President. As a soldier and an officer (even part-time), my allegiance is to the Commander-in-Chief and that starts at inauguration. That's also the day I can publicly voice my opinion on the job President Bush has done.

Kyle

(FWIW, even if Pee Wee Herman won today, I would be relieved it's over)

as you may have noted, I've stayed out of the pot the last several days. This is because we have all stated our views and nobody is likely to change them now, and I don't wish to engage in name calling or what-not-negativity. As Deri asked what is the link... it's disability... and what do we do when govts forbid certain people from entering their countries...

Hi Ken

Yes I agree what you wrote was insulting, but I wasn't "indignant" with my
reply - just a little sad. I certainly don't insult your intelligence since I
always try to provide you with reasons why I think some of your views are
wrong.

To return to my original question: What link is there between two stories
concerning immigration policy in Oz and Canada, and "socialised medecine"?

Cheers

Deri
